The Women’s Center of Wake County, located on Atlantic Avenue a few miles north of downtown, is the only day shelter for single women in the county. It uses evidence-based practices to provide stability and services to some of Wake County’s most vulnerable women experiencing homelessness.
The Women’s Center relies on volunteers to prepare and serve three nutritious meals a day. Members of the Outreach Committee recently served breakfast to about 60 women at the Center as a sort of “trial run” to see if members of Nativity might be interested in this volunteer opportunity. The response was very positive, and if there is enough interest, we propose volunteering once every three months. To do this, we would need 6-8 people to prepare the meal which might consist of a casserole using a common recipe, fruit, muffins, and juice. We would also need four people to serve the meal.
