Whether you’re new to the Christian faith, returning to church after time away, educated in another tradition, or a lifelong Episcopalian, Church of the Nativity aims to meet your needs for spiritual formation.
Adult Formation
Our programs are diverse, including lectures and discussions; book studies on social, political, and religious topics; films; and outreach presentations. Associated discussions are lively, focusing on raising questions rather than providing simple answers. We tap into the cultural and intellectual diversity of the Triangle by inviting guest speakers. While much of adult formation is offered on Sunday mornings, there are also small groups, book groups, and special offerings at other times. The goal of all these efforts is to inform us about programs and issues important to our understanding of the Christian life.
Education for Ministry
Additionally, we offer the Education for Ministry (EfM) program, a unique four-year course in theological education offered through The University of the South. EfM provides a comprehensive, in-depth study of scripture, church history, and theology, combined with opportunities for reflection and discussion. This program helps participants deepen their faith, understand their ministry, and explore their callings in a supportive community. EfM meets on Monday nights at Nativity.
Adult Pilgrimage & Retreats
We also organize adult pilgrimages and retreats that provide enriching experiences for spiritual growth and community building. In October 2025, we will undertake a pilgrimage to some holy sites in the North of the United Kingdom, focusing on locations significant to Celtic Christianity and the saints Aidan, Bede, and Cuthbert. These journeys offer an immersive way to connect with our faith and its history in a profound and personal manner.
More information about current and near future Adult Education opportunities may be found in Nativity’s weekly Glad Tidings announcements and the Nativity Star.
