BLACK BOY, BLACK BOY, and BLACK GIRL, BLACK GIRL are two such books that highlight the lives of inspirational people of color. Each book has selected particular people to give the reader a peek into the work these people have accomplished. Always, the authors are making the statement through the lives of these people that even young boys and girls can strive for greatness. The content is designed to give readers ideas about how they can make a difference. Each character chosen in the books is inspiring and affirming for younger readers, but will also give older readers opportunities to learn about cultural history.
The pages are colorful and easy to read, with rhyming lines that give the reader the information. These books are great for independent readers but also would be perfect for a classroom read out loud. or to be shared together with family. Younger children may also just like to look at the colorful pictures. The rhyming lines make the story easy to enjoy.
