US-Uganda Orphans Education Fund
Several years ago, The Rt. Rev. Samuel Kamya, then Anglican Bishop of West Buganda in the nation of Uganda and brother of one of our parishioners, visited Church of the Nativity and called our attention to the needs of his war-torn, HIV-ridden nation, and asked that we provide funds to educate Ugandan girls who are orphaned and poor. This ministry continues as an independent 501-c3 entity, the US-Uganda Orphans Education Fund; several members of Nativity are on its Board of Directors. Episcopal Campus Ministry
Episcopal Campus Ministry (ECM) is an opportunity for worship, spiritual reflection, Christian education, fellowship, pastoral and peer counseling, and service opportunities for the students and faculty of North Carolina State University, Meredith College, and Peace College. Nativity members frequently serve on the Board of Directors and Nativity supports this organization on a yearly basis. For more information, Email Perry Schneider or Email Josh Booth.
Abukloi
In 2010 Angelo Maker, one of the “lost boys of Sudan,” undertook a project to provide secondary schooling to both men and women in his home town of Rumbeck in South Sudan. He called the project Abukloi, meaning “we can do it.” Nativity has supported this effort since near the beginning when Angelo shared his vision with the parish. In 2018, the school graduated its first class of 60 students and looks to expand the program to include a healthcare center. So it is safe to say, “we are doing it,” even against a very fragile national backdrop. For more information Email Carl Terry, or go to the Abukloi Website.
Braver Network
A national, secular organization endorsed by The Episcopal Church, Braver Angels seeks to replace personal animosity in political debate with constructive approaches to building respect and finding common ground on important issues of our time. Church of the Nativity has joined that group’s Braver Network of faith, business, civic, and educational organizations working together to promote that vision of politics in the United States. Opportunities include depolarization workshops, Braver Discussions of specific issues, and access to a vast array of resources. For more information, Email Pete Crow.
Veterans at Nativity
We are veterans, service members and family/supports at Church of the Nativity. We gather Quarterly during the coffee hour following the 10:30 Service to discuss our Christian formation as refracted through “the Veteran experience.” All are welcome, even if you are not a veteran or a Nativity member.
