At Nativity, we seek to glorify God, to entertain and to enrich life in our greater community by offering arts events that communicate God’s love for us and our love for God and one another. Spirituality in the Arts is a series of performances and exhibitions that began in 2004. It features both amateur and professional artists, musicians, and performers — some from Nativity, some from outside. Most events are held at Church of the Nativity.
All events are free and open to the public. Events at Church of the Nativity are at 4 pm on Sunday. Child-care is provided for events at the church.

Aurora Musicalis – Quartet for the End of Time, Messiaen
4 pm – November 3, 2013
Raleigh’s own Aurora Musicalis performs this mystical work by composer Olivier Messiaen. While interned in WWII Stalag VIII-A prison camp, Messiaen composed Quartet for the End of Time, for the instruments he had on hand: a clarinet, a violin, a cello, and a piano. The work premiered January 15, 1941 for 5000 fellow prisoners. It is based on the book of Revelation’s Chapter 10 passage about the descent of the seventh angel at the sound of whose trumpet the mystery of God will be consummated and “there should be time no longer.” Come experience this musical exploration into the biblical concept of the end of time, of the past, future, and the beginning of eternity. At 3:15 pm a lecture about the music will precede the concert.
